Notes:
Beck returns to the Liquid Room, after his last legendary show there on March 31, 2003, and has another blast. A lengthy "Black Tambourine" starts everything, as the drums go for awhile before Beck makes his entrance with his guitar, and stretches on with harmonicas and other fun things. "Soldier Jane" similarly doesn't want to end. "Motorcade" is insane. "Paper Tiger" effortless blends into a hot, slow, psychedelic trip on the novacane expressway. I couldn't even begin to guess what Beck is going on about during "Hollywood Freaks," but he's gone temporarily insane. Beck only sings the first few words of "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime" before changing his mind. "Sunday Sun" is entirely reworked for a solo, standardly-tuned acoustic guitar... and is still just as impressive a song! "Nausea" is done solo acoustic at the dinner table too! Tron's keyboard apparently is stuck on a new age effect or something, so "Where It's At" sounds crazy to start... Beck calls it a "hotel lounge" sound and even asks "should we play something else?" But the band keep going on it, so he has no choice.
As Beck admits, "We're doing what we want tonight. We're making it up as we go." All shows should be this fun.
