Back when Beck.com actually had tour information, they listed a show on this date in Makati, China at Faces. Lance Hahn, Beck's guitarist at the time, let us know that on this day they actually were playing a show in Hong Kong.
Also, in the Mellow Gold 10th Anniversary documentary, Beck's tour manager Ben recalls this (and the prior show in the Philippines). He was a bit incredulous that they went all the way there--to play a punk gig in front of 250 people. "Beck just wanted to see it," was his explanation. Beck took advantage of his big "one-hit" and new major label backing, for sure. :)
(By the way, I wasn't sure how to list this. At the time Hong Kong wasn't part of China and now it is. I also didn't know whether Hong Kong counts as a city or if it should go as a state, since it's now an 'administrative region' of China . If anybody has any reasonable arguments for how they think this should be listed, let me know
