We have noted that this is an audience recording, but I'm not so sure. It has very good to great sound, and the audience noise does not overwhelm, so I have a feeling it was broadcast somehow. The sound quality makes this a highly recommended show, not to mention the pretty hot performance.
At one point, Beck makes mention of the fine folks of "Raleigh, Virginia." He realizes his mistake 20 seconds later, and is like "just kidding! This goes out to the North Carolina freaks!" Good cover, Beck!
Most of the show is pretty great. "Loser" has a slightly odd momentum to it, a little herky-jerky, and afterwards Beck says it was brand-new and called "Robo-Loser." (My guess is that it wasn't intentional.)
Usually Beck plays "Hotwax," but tonight he starts chanting "who's gonna throw up their hands and say 'I got to represent!'?" This leads to a verse of "Diskobox" which then leads just the "I get down" chant of "Hotwax" and then "Little Drum Machine Boy." It's a strange and cool melange of fun.
The acoustic set is usual for this time period, "Asshole," "Truckdrivin," "One Foot." (Albeit, one of the more exciting "One Foot"s of all-time!) He says he's gonna play a few songs from One Foot In The Grave, but we only get the one.
"Jack-ass" and "Fuckin With My Head" are particularly awesome.
Most encores for shows of this time would begin with DJ Swamp soloing on his turntables, before the band would return for a totally mad version of "High 5." However, the setlist for this show has long been noted as the punk version of "Devils Haircut" and "Mutherfuker." A review in the Duke University paper said this, "the encore featured a speeded-up, punk version of "Devil's Haircut" and "(Everyone's Out to Get You) Motherfucker," Beck ranting with manic intensity and bringing a show to an exhilarting, sweat-drenched conclusion."
