Notes:
First off, this old classic boot has ended up on Youtube!
To put this show in context, it's about the 14th show with the Odelay band (on their first leg). Beck would become a huge star (and this band amazing) very very shortly, but for now, they're still finding their way, and sound pretty raw and punk rock, and the Odelay party grooves and subtle diversity are still developing. It's a great document to have this on video.
During the acoustic set, Beck improvises 3 songs about his roadie Ben Cooley. The third one is very clearly the music for what would become "Little One" six years later.
Also of note, this is the earliest band version of "Debra," and following it with "Mutherfuker" in the encore is kind of insane. :)
UPDATE: a person who attended the show has informed me that it was in the town of Carpi, not Cesena as we've long had been informed. The Festival does move around every year, but in 1996 it does appear to have been in Carpi.
